The Context — The History
Job’s friends argued from traditional wisdom that suffering proved guilt. Near Eastern legal imagery included a redeemer who vindicated the wronged—Job reaches beyond his counselors toward ultimate justice.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
In the depths of physical pain and social rejection, Job declares confidence in a living redeemer who will stand on earth at last. This hope pierces his lament with expectation of divine vindication.
