The Context — The History
Paul wrote from prison to Philippi, a city proud and prosperous yet not immune to worry. Stoic philosophers also taught about anxiety, but Paul offered prayer and God’s peace rather than self-mastery alone.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Philippians 4 calls believers to rejoice always and let gentleness be evident. Paul then addresses anxiety directly, prescribing prayer with thanksgiving as the path to a peace that guards heart and mind in Christ.
