The Context — The History
Proverbs presents wisdom literature rooted in Israel’s fear of the Lord. In a culture offering many voices about success and morality, Solomon’s instruction insists that true knowledge and understanding originate from God’s mouth, not merely human experience.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Chapter 2 urges seeking wisdom like silver and searching for it like hidden treasure. Then the Lord gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from his mouth, guarding paths of justice and shielding those who walk with integrity.
