The Context — The History
Deuteronomy 28 presents blessings and curses tied to covenant obedience as Israel prepared to possess Canaan. National identity as God’s holy people was not automatic; it rested on sworn promise and responsive walking in the commands given at Sinai.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Moses described prosperity, victory, and exaltation among nations if Israel listened to God. Before listing curses for disobedience, he promised that faithful obedience would establish them as the holy people God swore to make them, set apart among the nations.
