The Context — The History
Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus, a major commercial center where Artemis worship dominated culture. Many new believers came from pagan backgrounds and needed clarity that salvation rests on God’s grace, not religious performance.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Ephesians 2 begins by describing humanity’s spiritual deadness and separation from God. Paul then proclaims God’s mercy and the resurrection power that brings believers from death to life in Christ.
