The Context — The History
Jeremiah 17 contrasts cursed reliance on human strength with blessed trust in God, using vivid tree and desert images. Judah during Jeremiah’s ministry leaned on foreign alliances rather than covenant faithfulness.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
The heart is deceitful above all things, yet the one who trusts the LORD is like a tree planted by water. Blessing flows from confidence rooted in God rather than flesh.
