The Context — The History
Proverbs 31 closes with the poem of the wife of noble character, likely taught to Lemuel by his mother. Ancient praise often focused on appearance; this acrostic poem values industrious faithfulness.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After warning kings against women and wine, Lemuel’s mother describes virtue that outlasts charm. The fear of the LORD marks the woman worthy of public honor at the city gate.
