The Context — The History
Nahum prophesied Nineveh’s fall around the mid-seventh century BC when Assyrian power seemed permanent. Locust swarms were familiar agricultural disasters in Mesopotamia, here mocking unreliable defenders.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After describing Nineveh’s violence, Nahum taunts the city’s leaders as locusts that vanish in heat. No one can find them when real battle comes—judgment on an empire that crushed nations.
