The Context — The History
Proverbs 21 speaks to subjects living under royal power in Israel and surrounding nations. Political leaders seemed autonomous, yet wisdom confessed that the Lord could direct a king’s heart like irrigation channels in a field, turning policy according to divine pleasure.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
The chapter commends justice, diligent planning, and generosity while warning against bribery and pride. This verse offers quiet hope: even royal decisions are not beyond God’s guidance, as he turns the king’s heart wherever he wills.
